Reclarification

So after a couple of comments about the triathlon Jessica Rowe and I are doing together, I thought maybe I need to re-clarify or paint a fuller picture of what this little endeavor really is. Although I would love for you to think, "wow, a triathlon"...the truth is that it's not going to be that grand at all. You see we're training for a sprint triathlon, which sounds like it would be a regular triathlon, going faster. Nope, it's not. It's basically just a baby, mini version of a triathlon. The JV version if you will. We'll swim 400 meters, bike 13 miles, and run 3 miles. Justin says he could do it without training at all, and my over-competitive nature with my husband is begging him to give it a try! So anyway, if any of you guys now think....hey, I could do that...YOU CAN! And we would LOVE for you to join us for our mock triathlon on November 3rd. Oh yeah, did I say we're not really competing in a real sprint triathlon? It's our own "mock" version, with our husbands as the officials to see if we'd really embarrass ourselves in a real one or not. Even more reason for you to join us in our efforts. I'm absolutely loving the training, no joke. It's do-able, but you feel like you're getting stronger and accomplishing so much. Anyway, let me know if you'd like to enter our mock tri. There's only a minimal entry fee we'll be collecting! We still haven't thought of a name for it either, so any suggestions will be considered. :)

You are a MESS. You're sweet, but a mess. So don't minimize the sprint triathalon! I know people who only do sprints, and they proudly call themselves triathletes (sp?). It's definitely something that most people couldn't do. I've never done it, and I could imagine that the swimming would be the biggest challenge for me! And I would like to know how Justin does in the mock one after not training at all... you should definitely hold him to that!

Hey...I found your blog through Nikki's and really enjoyed reading it (which I did instead of working this Friday morning!!!). I think it's awesome that you are doing the sprint triathalon. I did one about 3 years ago and love it, but it was hard!

I wish I had some profound advice to give you!! The running was definately the hardest b/c my legs felt like jello at that point, though I thought it was my stongest area. I don't think I did enough "bricks" when training (doing a back to back bike-run or swim-bike). The one I did was in open water. I am not the super competitive type and if you are not...I would suggest being in the back of the group when the swim takes off...or else you'll get kicked!! It is a huge accomplishment and I wish you the best of luck!!!

HI! I found your blog from a link from Kim K's. It looks like you and Justin are having so much fun! Treasure this time in your marriage before kids! I'm so excited about your triathlon. I used to do them for the same reason- it gave me something to work for and I'd stick with my workouts better. You will have so much fun! My advice: in your mind, treat it as 3 separate races. Don't think about the bike and run while you swim etc. I hope the mock one goes well and you decide to do a real one in the spring! You won't regret it!!! Love, Kaela
