The Glass Castle

On the way back from our Christmas vacation in Costa Rica, we got stuck in the airport. As I was browsing through the gift shop wasting time, I found this book. I remembered that my friend Jenny had actually heard the author of this book speak in person, so I figured it might keep my attention long enough to get through the long airport delay. Ends up it did much more than just "get me through." I wouldn't consider myself an avid reader, but I could not put this book down. It's a true story of the tainted childhood of a successful New York journalist, as she grew up in poverty. My words describing it cannot do it justice! Here's one quote I found that I think more accurately describes it...

Dani Shapiro, author of Family History says "Jeannette Walls has carved a story with precision and grace out of one of the most chaotic, heartbreaking childhoods ever to be set down on the page. This deeply affecting memoir is a triumph in every possible way, and it does what all good books should: it affirms our faith in the human spirit."

I couldnt' say it better. For me there's such satisfaction in finishing (as I usually only make it half way through books) a good book that left you thinking and pulled your heart at the same time. Just let me know if you'd like to borrow it, I'd be happy to share. :)
